From boarding pass to ski lift: planning your winter sports holiday

So, you’re planning to go on a winter sports holiday? Great idea! A winter sports holiday is the perfect way to escape the daily grind for a while. But before you hit the slopes, there is plenty to arrange. Not to worry: we’ll guide you through the whole process, from booking your trip to taking the ski lift. That way you can set off on your winter sports holiday with complete peace of mind!

The preparation

First of all, choosing your destination. Where do you want to go? The Alps, the Pyrenees, or perhaps somewhere further afield such as Canada? Think about what matters most to you: challenging slopes, lively après-ski, or perhaps a family-friendly ski resort. Once you have chosen your destination, it’s time to book. You can opt for a package holiday with everything included: flight, accommodation and ski pass. Or you can arrange everything separately: first your flight and accommodation, and the ski pass later. Don’t forget to take out travel insurance that covers winter sports!

The journey

Once everything is booked, you can start packing. Bring warm clothing, proper ski wear, and don’t forget your sunglasses. Also think about practical matters such as your passport and, of course, your boarding pass for the flight. And remember to pack some casual clothes for the evenings at the resort as well.

On the day of departure, make sure you arrive at the airport in good time. If you are bringing skis or a snowboard, make sure you know how the airline handles them, as there are sometimes extra charges or special rules. After a hopefully smooth flight, you will arrive at your destination. Depending on where you are going, you will take a bus, train or hire car to the ski resort. This is the moment when you can really start to relax. And then… you’re almost there!

At the destination

Once you have arrived at the ski resort, you can’t wait to get out on the slopes. But before that, first collect your ski or snowboard equipment from the rental shop if you haven’t brought your own. Then pick up your ski pass if you don’t have one yet. And then, at last, it’s time for the real thing: taking the ski lift to the top of the mountain. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced skier, the feeling of that first descent is indescribable. Enjoy every minute!
